Case Study

American Red Cross

Since 2009, we have had the distinct privilege of providing creative help and digital support services for one of the most widely recognized brands on planet Earth.

The American Red Cross is known for helping to save lives. We help the Red Cross save money.

The Red Cross is a big organization, with deep roots all over America. It is also one of the most recognized brands on the planet. It represents compassion, relief and people helping other people in times of need. For well over 100 years (since 1881) the world looks to the Red Cross for help and hope whenever and wherever disasters strike.

We have been lucky enough to become a trusted vendor to the Red Cross for a wide array of creative and technical services such as UX design, website development and digital marketing. We provide these services in fairly significant volume — thousands of hours per year — at discounted billing rates which are very hard to beat. The relationship has been mutually beneficial for quite a long time now – almost 10 years – and we hope that it never ends. We take a tremendous amount of satisfaction knowing that much of the day-to-day work we do with the American Red Cross has real-world impact for the greater social good.

The biggest website we’ve ever worked on

In 2011, DesignStudio helped them with a massive website project to consolidate over 600 localized chapter websites into one flagship website on their primary domain: RedCross.org.

We played a very interesting role in the project which involved multiple vendors, hundreds of collaborators and a very discerning steering committee at Red Cross headquarters in Washington DC.  Our job was to help with a couple thousand hours of image prep, content publishing and light coding both for the national business lines and also the local regions from all over the country.

In late 2012, after the website launched, it was put to the test almost immediately. Hurricane Sandy hit just a few months later.
